The idea of a new stadium was brought around in 1995 following talks between the club, Stoke-on-Trent city council and Stoke-on-Trent regeneration - developers of the Trentham Lakes site on which the ground stands.
Just two years later the stadium was complete, and on August 27th 1997 Rochdale were the first ever visitors to the Brit. The League Cup tie ended 1-1 - Graham Kavanagh netting for the Potters in the first ever goal at the stadium. Four days later, the Potters played their first ever League game at the Brit, and Swindon Town were the visitors. Little did we know, that season would be a terrible one for Stoke City, as we were relegated down to division 2, as well as selling Mike Sheron who was a big assit to the club.
<align="left">Besides Stoke City, the stadium has also attracted other large events such as firework displays ever year and pop concerts. Rock outfit Bonjovi played at the Brit in the summer of 2000, and now every summer we get a number of top acts performing at the 'Live In The City' music festival. Blue, Liberty-X and Big Brovaz performed at the Brit in July 2003 and Busted have also booked at a concert at the ground. <center> The StandsStadium Directions
